SPORTS

The selection of sporting activities available to tourists in Dubai and surrounding area is incredible. It is the without a doubt the undisputed “sports capital of the Middle East”, hosting world class international sporting events that attract the biggest names in sport be it golf, motor racing, tennis, power-boating, cricket, rugby to name but a few. Apart from the spectator sports, holiday makers to Dubai can participate in a huge array of land, air and water sports.

The list is endless and just about any popular sport in your home country can be found in Dubai. Some of the sports which you can find available are: Archery, boating (sail and power), fishing, bowling, cycling, flying, golf, tennis, ice skating, snow boarding, snow skiing, sand boarding, water skiing, snorkeling, parasailing, shooting, horse riding and jogging.

The facilities are excellent, the weather is fine most of the year and equipment can be hired at a reasonable cost.

GOLF

With its excellent weather and first class facilities, Dubai is rapidly becoming one of the world’s premier golfing destinations. Every year the number of international standard golf courses grows.

The Emirates Golf Club plays host to the Annual Dubai Desert Classic tournament which is part of the European PGA Tour and always attracts the big names of golf. Of course there are several other monthly tournaments and annual competitions open to all such as he Emirates Mixed Amateur Open, The Emirates Ladies Amateur Open and the Emirates Men’s Amateur Open.

A favourite feature with visitors to Dubai is the central reservation system operated by Dubai Golf for those wishing to book a round on any of the major courses in the Emirate. This can be done by visiting their web site at www.dubaigolf.com or we can arrange this for you.

At present there are a handful of new courses under development such as the Golf World in Dubailand, Tiger Woods Land, a course by Ernie Els and Greg Norman is currently developing 6 more new courses, Yes the future of golf in Dubai looks promising.

The Robert Trent Jones designed Al Badia Golf Resort at Festival City.

The Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club has recently been re developed and designed by Thomas Bjorn.

Home of the Dubai Desert Classic is the Emirates Golf Club.

Montgomerie Golf Club, as the name suggests, designed by Colin Montgomerie.

The first fully floodlit golf course in the Middle East, at Nad Al Sheba Club

The Resort course situated at the Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa.

Not forgetting the Al Hamra Golf Club in Ras Al Khaimah, only 3/4 hrs drive from Villa Masbah, or in Sharjah, the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club and Sharjah Wanderers Club. Further afield for the avid golfer are the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, and the Palm Sport Club in Al Ain.

OH! Did we forget to mention the Arabian Ranches Golf Club, right on your door step, just a few minutes drive from Villa Masbah and set in Arabian Ranches.

ADVENTURE

Dubai is not all about shopping malls, 5* hotels, and restaurants. It has a perfect environment for all types of outdoor activities. If it is something different you want and a little adventure in your life then look no further than Dubai. There is something to suit all tastes.

 

The long crystal clear coast line play host to not only the swimming from the beaches but scuba diving, sailing, para sailing, wind surfing, water skiing, kite surfing and of course game fishing. There are many companies which have expert diving training. Numerous charter boats are available to take you out game fishing.

Want to get airborne, then why not try your skills at sky diving, micro light flying or power hang gliding. There is nothing like soaring 500 or 600 hundred metres above the desert and absorbing the fantastic views. For the less adventurous then helicopter trips or float plane excursions. Then of course you have hot air ballooning, which can take up to 40 people in one of the largest hot air balloons in the world. Due to the hot summers, flights can be restricted, so check first.

Or hit the desert on dune buggies. Bounce over the dunes in a buggy is addictive, exhilarating and a great way to see the desert close up. It is popular in most desert areas. It is advisable to contact Desert Rangers organize a tour for you.

 

Fancy a bit of horse riding? Why not try the Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club located at the Arabian Ranches. They even have polo lessons should you wish to experience this great sport. There are several other available clubs where you can hire horses or take riding lessons.

Fancy your skills as the next Lewis Hamilton? Try driving a racing car or how about some go-karting? The Dubai Autodrome have these on offer. Located just outside the Arabian Ranches and close to Villa Masbah.

Of course you cannot forget the trip to the ski slope, of Ski Dubai, located at the Mall of the Emirates. With its 5 different runs, the longest being 400m, skiers and snow boarders of all skill will enjoy the thrills. Even if you do not ski or snow board it is well worth a visit and have fun in the huge interactive Snow Park.
